Crafted, Beautiful, Loved

13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. 14  I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. 15  My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. 16  Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.   ~Psalm 139: 13-16

When you knit or sew something, you know everything about it. You know where that spot is that you had to patch up a bit; you know where that one stitch is that you did and re-did a million times. You know how you tweaked the pattern a little because you purchased the wrong materials. Someone may easily look at your creation and tell you it’s effortlessly perfect, but you know the truth. You were the one who spent hours toiling over it: fixing this, designing that, and meticulously crafting it to meet your standards. This is the picture that the author of Psalm 139 wants us to grasp. God knitted us together. Stitch by stitch; slowly, painstakingly, crafting you into the girl He wanted you to be. In Colossians 1: 16-17, it says, “For by Him all things were created: things on heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” He created you. God is perfect- He never makes mistakes. He put you on this earth for a purpose: His purpose. So many teenage girls today blaspheme God’s creation. How? By criticizing themselves and the way they look. You are God’s masterpiece, meticulously knitted together by the Creator of the universe! Think of how it must hurt Him when we look at the girl and the mirror and whisper lies to her.

“You aren’t pretty enough.”

“You weigh too much.”

“Just look at that hair.”

“No one will ever want to look at your face with all that acne.”

That’s just what they are, too. LIES. Stop listening to Satan revile God’s creation of you! Listen instead to what God thinks of you. Think instead about how God loves you. Meditate instead about how God knitted you together while you were still in your mother’s womb. He crafted you, He died for you, and He invites you to enter into a personal relationship with Him. Don’t ever again look at the girl in the mirror and criticize God’s creation of her. Instead, thank Him for the things you previously condemned. Thank Him for creating you with that mole, that hair, that birthmark- ask Him to reveal His special purpose for stitching you together and placing you on this earth. Never forget that He loves you and longs for you to see yourself as He sees you: crafted, beautiful, and loved.

  1. Miriam this was amazing! You definitely have a gift with words, and I am so proud of you for taking initiative to do something like this! This was an amazing reminder for me and I’m sure everyone who has read it! I love how you started with scripture and then explained it so well! I’ll be praying for you! Love you! Keep up the good work!
